A method of operating a gas turbine engine powerplant 10 for an aircraft is
disclosed. Various construction details are developed which decrease the
temperature of failed components to decrease maintenance time for the
aircraft engine. In one particular embodiment, the method includes the
step of increased cooling of the engine oil at the end of the cruise
operative condition and at the beginning of idle descent to overcool oil
and components in contact with the oil during the descent mode of the
aircraft.
